东北某市，晨报主任左守权得知与前妻生活多年的女儿，在校组建“问题乐队”，不务正业，恐将被学校处分。老左欲将女儿留在家乡从事铁饭碗工作，左明明却欲南下逐梦。老左苦口婆心劝说不成只好四处托人求助。女儿英语老师吕有容，因儿子转学之事有求于老左，两人化干戈为玉帛，惺惺相惜。由此引发左明明误会其二人有苟且之事，羞怒至极，父女决裂。左明明终日与乐队混迹夜场，几乎放弃学业。老同学牛校长涉嫌违纪，牵连老左被停职。吕老师因和老左的一条醉酒视频丢了工作。关乎女儿学位的英语四级考试，也只剩下最后机会。 为了女儿的未来，老左找来女儿乐队吉他手小马协助，准备孤注一掷……

Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
