贾家贵为国戚，贾政长女元春，乃当今万岁爱妃，故门第富贵非凡，出生在豪门的宝玉，天质聪明，但个性开朗，是太夫人的命根子，再加上荣国府眷众多，宝玉在这脂粉之中长大。袭人是宝玉贴身女脾，另一名婢女晴雯，年龄与宝玉相近，两人平时打情骂俏的，也渐渐两人肌肤相亲，产生异样之感。再说到杨州林家，黛玉生母贾氏，是荣府之女，故宝玉与黛玉乃姑表玉亲，贾氏梁病身亡，老太夫人心疼，把黛玉接来荣国府安住，两人似曾相识，因此格外亲切。贾琏是宝玉二哥，他是个风流种，到处寻欢作乐，二嫂王忌凤有难耐空房，尤其王偷看宝玉和黛玉两人亲热，使她欲火难消，她把婢女平儿来个假凤虚凰。不久，宝王生了大病而臼亡，消息给黛玉知道赶到闺房不见宝玉，黛玉伤心过度，一对佳人就此分别。

Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
